The story of Haibane Renmei revolves primarily around Rakka, the newest arrival at Old Home. From the outset Reki assumes the role of protector and guide to Rakka, helping her adapt to living as a Haibane. As time passes, Rakka develops friendships with each of the other Haibane, but none of those friendships have the same closeness as her relationship with Reki. Reki and Rakka develop an understanding of one another that none of the other Haibane can match. From this understanding grow happiness and contentment.

In my opinion, the relationship between Reki and Rakka is the type of friendship that occurs only rarely. Difficult to find in life, and harder to portray on-screen. If you loved watching their relationship develop as much as I did, please join this fanlisting, and show the world how important this kind of relationship is to you.
